DESIGN CONCEPT

The obverse of the coin shows an overall geometric design of the Islamic art form rendered in a contemporary format. The central design carries the Arabic phrase “Peace Be Upon You’ which is a prerequisite for all dirhams. This centre piece is balanced with the minting date of the coins (2011) in Arabic. The links that circle the coin capture the concept of people who, despite their diversity, live by their individual beliefs of sharing the world in peace and harmony.

The reverse design is marked “10 Dirham” on which the Crescent Moon & Rising Star are rendered within the “1”. Pure and uncluttered, the reverse allows the mint to showcase the amazing whiteness only extra-fine silver can provide, plus allow the mirror proof-like finish to contrast with the obverse of the coin.

Above the uniquely rendered “10 Dirham” design, the phrase “1 WORLD • May Peace Be Upon Our Planet” written in the English language is an artistic bridge that spans the language divide to allow the non-Arabic-speaking populace to capture the essence of this important message with the hope that the spirit of peace shall be passed from one human being to another every time these coins might change hands.

Below the “10 Dirham” design, are minted the words “To Create, To Preserve and To Prosper”, conveying the belief of creating and preserving one’s wealth and health and to prosper from the wise investment this coin represents. Central to the design concept of these dirham coins is the underlying philosophy that the silver dirham--one of the oldest silver coins in human civilization--will continue to retain its intrinsic value, as it has for the last 1,400 years.
